History

Prevention Connections (PC) was established in 2003 as a 501 (c) (3) and serves as a nonprofit partner organization to acquire resources for activities that complement and expand the childhood obesity and tobacco-use prevention efforts of the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth (VFHY).

PC has received federal grants to conduct youth health surveys, to host national conferences and to issue grants to Virginia schools to implement vending machine audits and implement programs for safe walking and bicycling routes to school. PC has received state and foundation grants for tobacco-free athletic stadium projects and to create a statewide partnership for tobacco cessation.  PC also has conducted fundraising activities to support community outreach and education efforts. For example, PC co-hosted and secured financial support for biennial Virginia Youth Obesity and Youth and Young Adult Tobacco Prevention conferences, and the annual Virginia Healthy Youth Day.
